Welcome to Episode Six of ‘On the Fringe.’
In today’s podcast, we are immersed in the rich world of ‘The Remarkable Realisation of Ricky’s Modern Life’ by Erica Brennan. Then we listen to Mary Rapp’s new song (under pseudonym MaryHeart) ‘Different Kinda’ and Tiera Boo throws some rapid-fire questions at this remarkable musician, multi-instrumentalist, and academic.
Erica Brennan is a Sydney based writer, director, and physical theatre performer. She is a founding member and lead devising artist for physical theatre ensemble NINEFOLD and one of our beloved Sydney Fringe Festival Team members.
Read by Erica, ‘The Remarkable Realisation of Ricky’s Modern Life’ is a made for Audio monologue that evokes questions of personal accountability and maternal instinct, set within a strange dream world.
Later in the episode, we learn how Mary Rapp started her life in Music, how she approaches songwriting, why she created the Mary Heart persona for her Rhythm and Blues inspired band of the same name, the benefits of separating the different parts of her practices, and she shares some candid feelings about the Sydney Music scene.
We also receive an introduction to traditional Korean Pansori singing, which informs Mary’s doctoral thesis.
On The Fringe is made possible by The City of Sydney and Project Partner Aeona.
