How did becoming a nurse, getting married, having a kid and force-feeding her husband celery juice eat into so many days? To return to her destiny and true identity as a mega celebrity, Alli flees the city, returns to the small country town where she was born and performs to the sheep, cows and canola. It was a good decision. The shows were a raging success. And when she followed that up and actually played gigs to real people it was even better— because Alli played to sell out crowds all over regional (and then Metropolitan) WA! And now it’s time to jet-set on Jetstar back to the big-smoke, build on the unstoppable momentum and rebirth as the 40-year-old-popstar she was always destined to be! It’s been heady times since our Alli, ex-nurse, mother, and colon-cleaner-upperer, threw her sphygmomanometer to the wind. Life has been one rollercoaster of gigs, recordings and photoshoots. Occasionally she feeds her child.
Combining genres of pop music and stand-up comedy, Forty Year Old Pop Star incisively challenges the notion that women who are over forty should be relegated to the cultural graveyard. Alli’s songs, which are sometimes funny and sometimes poignant – give a powerful frame to her comedy. The show premiered at the 2019 York Festival, subsequently opened at Perth’s Fringe World in 2020, and then went on to a sell out tour of the Western Australian Wheatbelt.
Alli Butler has performed at major Australian comedy venues including The Comedy Store in Sydney and The Butterfly Club in Melbourne. She is also a singer-songwriter whose song Fire in my Heart was recently a semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only music competition. Alli has acted in musicals and TV shows including All Saints when they buried her in a box (true story).
