About this event
"The music adds depth to poignant text..........candid and emotive.............as a piece of musical expression it is glorious - beautiful melody, tenderness and very special."
Peter Adams (PJA Works)

"Closing Time" is a 45 minute, staged song cycle created out of the lived experience of a couple dealing with dementia.
The poems are by turns raw, lyrical, dynamic, reflective, accepting.
The song cycle for soprano, baritone, narrator and pianist sets poems capturing some of the maelstrom of emotions of a couple living with the man’s dementia and provides an insight into the dynamics of the carer and the cared for.
In general, people may not wish to accept dementia as the subject for entertainment. It is hoped that couching the material in a musical form will make the subject more approachable and create greater awareness.

Please be aware that in Part 3 of the song cycle, the poems contain common swear words which might be offensive to some. These expletives are indicative of or say something about the tremendous impact living with dementia can have on both carer and the cared for.
