Welcome to Be | Longing at the Sydney Fringe Festival. Join our Creative Conversation on mental health and belonging, exploring connections, challenging norms, and envisioning a future of flourishing communities.

In today's fast-paced world, the need for genuine human connection has never been more vital. As social beings, we crave a sense of belonging, of being seen, known, and accepted. It is within the fabric of community that we find solace, purpose, and meaning. Brené Brown beautifully encapsulates this by stating, "Connection is why we're here. We are hardwired to connect with others, it's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and without it, there is suffering."
Sadly, mental health challenges affect a significant portion of our society. In Australia alone, statistics reveal that half of all Australians will experience mental ill health during their lifetime. Furthermore, one in five Australians will suffer from mental health issues each year. These numbers demand our attention and collective action.
We believe that belonging is a powerful antidote to the isolation and struggles often associated with mental ill health. We aim to explore the profound impact of our drive for belonging and its effects on our mental well-being. How does a sense of belonging contribute to healing and effective treatment? What does it mean to belong in a culture that emphasises individualism and success? These are the questions we aim to unpack through thought-provoking conversations, immersive artistic experiences, and engaging performances.
This Creative Conversation transcends the boundaries of traditional discourse. We bring together a diverse range of artists, performers, activists, practitioners, and thinkers to share their stories, interrogate their experiences, ask challenging questions, and seek solutions for living mentally healthier lives.
Through captivating narratives, and stimulating discussions, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of mental health and belonging, encouraging society to dismantle stigmas and build communities that nurture well-being.
