This 60 minute drama will have you questioning if you should have listened to your mother. Dalo Chips and Imli Chutney brings to you the messy story of Kavita, a newly divorced Fijian-Indian woman in her 40’s who is trying to come to terms with the shattered reality of her current life. Betrayed by her partner, living with her critical mother Amma, and entering the twilight years which look more like a dark abyss, what else is there to do but be bitter about it? Meanwhile, her daughter Piyal has her entire whole life in front of her. When a secret about Piyal comes out to Kavita and Amma, conflict ensues as all women try to stop her from making what they think is the biggest mistake of all their lives. While Amma...well, she just wants to save her family’s reputation.

Come to Dalo Chips and Imli Chutney to laugh, cry, and then call your mother figures afterwards!

Naicker’s writing is well observed, insightful not only with the themes concerned, but also the emotions that emerge from having to navigate those quandaries. Suzy Goes See

Naicker has created a cohesive and engaging narrative that will open your eyes to a different perspective on immigration and this notion of what it means to belong. We are reminded that everyone has a story – even your own family. The AU Review

The moving Dalo Chips and Imli Chutney, written by Varuna Naicker (mentor, Bina Bhattacharya), offers an insight into the complexities of the Fiji-Indian migrant culture through the eyes of three generations of women. In this way, the audience are gradually introduced to the history of Fiji-Indians, a group they might not have much knowledge of, while given insight into the different problems faced by each generation within not only their adopted land but also within the Fiji-Indian cultural community.
