About this event
Tiang tells her story with humour; sees herself as a dandelion - out of place. The journey embodies understanding cultural differences, colloquialism, adaptation, resilience and self acceptance

When the flower fairy asked the dandelion where it would like to grow, the dandelion replied " where children play". That is why dandelions grow on pavements, cracks in walls, fields, school yards and gardens. Dandelion has the ability to thrive in challenging conditions.
In many gardens, dandelion is perceived as a weed, an unwelcomed plant. Tiang as an immigrant initially sees herself as a dandelion in a garden that is Australia when she arrived in 1972.

Tiang invites you on a hilarious and heartwarming journey, highlighting the universal theme of fitting in and belonging through adaptation and resilience.

Tiang infuses her storytelling with humor and wit and shares anecdotes and personal experiences from her immigrant journey, illustrating the challenges in trying to fit into a new culture.

Between laughs, Tiang shares insights and wisdom gained from her experiences, inspiring audiences to embrace their uniqueness, celebrate diversity and foster empathy and talks about the universal emotions and themes of being comfortable in one's own skin.

In many gardens, dandelion is perceived as a weed, an unwelcomed plant but to foragers, the Dandelion is very useful, the roots break compacted soils, the whole plant has medicinal properties and is edible. When society sees the contributions by immigrants, they too are not out of place.

Tiang is a proud member of Older Women's Network's Theatre Group, NSW.
