A high-calibre ensemble of musicians and dancers at the pinnacle of their crafts present Sui Generis. The production is a sensory and conceptual buffet – a double bill of contemporary dance.
Artistic director of Danza del Arte, choreographer Paulina Quinteros showcases the versatility of dance as a medium for evoking the themes of a diverse selection of music.
As the centre piece of the program, the choreography invites you to experience a world brought to life by the beating of the Japanese Taiko drums in Ryuji Hamada’s musical composition for Water Mirror. Animated by the melodies of a vocalist and by the Shakuhachi, Japanese flute. Projections capture the moving figures of the dancers, tracing out silver linings and letting the audience visualise each tone as it comes.
In the second program, scores from Bach and Vivaldi introduce a new atmosphere for dancers. This lyrical piece appeals to the relationship between dance and the aesthetic.
