Lost boys Sam and Boggins meet in a desert and build a towering machine from the scraps life has thrown them.
Sam and Boggins are lost boys on a journey of discovery throughout the desert. On the cusp of adolescence, they cling to childhood fables to help them make sense of the landscape of their lives: parental addiction, queer sexual desire, and the adult responsibilities thrust upon them. In this desert landscape, they find discarded scraps and burnt-out cars. They’re inspired to build a machine. This project becomes their obsession, as they build a fantasy world that towers to the sky. As an audience member, prepare to be enveloped in the action as the machine is built all around you throughout the performance. On their journey, they are led by the Desert Bard. This twisted guide personifies both their vulnerabilities and their need for care. A lone-ranger vulture, with the mask of a plague doctor and the stetson of a cowboy. The Desert Bard sings a tale of black humour and watches over the boys as they build their world of steam-punk nightmares and wide-open dreams.
