Every night, while their Mistress is out, two maids perform a dark and dangerous roleplay. Casting off their aprons, they fantasise about murdering her and escaping the social confines of servitude. Revelling in their imagined positions of power, they never quite reach the climax of their fantasy. But their deadly fantasy is quickly becoming an attractive reality.That Theatre Company's inaugural production examines the power imbalances between the privileged and the oppressed. Our titular characters live and breathe under the thumb of an authority figure who abuses her power, simply because she can. In a world that gives all social and institutional power to the privileged, our production peeps through the keyhole at the powerless, as they conspire to destroy the system from the inside and take control of their own narrative.David Halgren directs a powerhouse cast in the play’s three female-identifying roles, with Eleni Cassimatis and Samantha Lambert as the two maids, and Hannah Raven as the wealthy Madame.
