The premise of much of Thick & Tight’s work is to pair together famous faces whose paths never crossed in real life, to reveal something about human nature through these imagined encounters. In The Princess & The Showgirl, a heady mix of dance, lip-syncing, voice clippings and film reconstructions, Princess Diana and Marilyn Monroe are dogged by fame and beauty. They find solace in one another, bound together by the sadness of their childhoods, the hounding by press, their very public love affairs and mysterious unsolved deaths.
The Princess & The Showgirl is part of A Night With Thick & Tight, an award-winning triple bill presented at Brighton Fringe Festival, London International Mime Festival and Wilton’s Music Hall.
Thick & Tight are a UK based dance duo who take influence from a range of historical, political, literary & artistic subjects. Based in rigorous ballet & contemporary techniques, their choreographic style is intricate, distinctive & musical, incorporating elements of queer performance such as drag, lip-syncing & camp humour, with a close relationship between movement & design. Established in 2012, their award-winning work has been shown extensively in the UK and beyond.
Co-directors Daniel Hay-Gordon and Eleanor Perry are interested in promoting queer culture and accessibility within dance and exploring dance as a political art form with the power to challenge and dispel social stigma.
