The Sydney Fringe team have gathered together many of the resources you may need to get through isolation, and sustain yourself during the closures in the Arts.

 

See below: things to watch and do to keep you sane; opportunities for projects and funding while distanced or during the recovery; and digital places to give & receive support.

ACTIVISM

NAVA the National Association for the Visual Arts. Not only a Vis Arts organisation, they act as a peak body for the arts in general nationally.

The UN and the WHO (not the band) have sent out a global call-out to creatives, asking for your help making socially responsible content that gets important health messages into the community. Check it out here.

The Artist Support Pledge is a fascinating ‘pay it forward’ opportunity out of the UK.

Accessible Arts have published a brilliant list of the top 10 things to consider when making online events, to ensure they’re as accessible as possible.

OPPORTUNITIES

AusCo’s Resilience Fund Grants in three categories, Survive, Adapt and Create, of up to $10K for individuals and groups and $20K for organisations. Closing on May 28th.

Create NSW have announced additional support for the Arts sector. Programs of particular interest to independent artists include Small Grants (Closing June 30th) and Cultural Leadership fellowships (various closing dates).

Inner West Council Resilience grant for artists and venues available now. Closing on May 17th.

Create NSW and Sydney Metro are also offering commissions for visual artists to create works for Sydney metro train stations undergoing upgrades.

Listen Up Music have a range of opportunities for musicians specifically tailored to life in lockdown.

66th Blake Art & Poetry Prizes Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre want to give artists more time to submit their entries for the so have extend the entry deadline to 31 May, 2020.

National Young Writers Festival have applications for their 2020 festival now open until 8th May, 2020.

Anywhere Festival have expressions of interest open for events to be presented online or ‘distanced’.

1000 x 1000 Crisis Cash For Artists $1000 grants for affected artists managed by Theatre Network Australia

Adelaide FringeVIEW online festival of digital work running May 1st – 31st

Hollywood Fringe are seeking submissions of short digital works for their online festival.

Anywhere Festival are seeking submissions for a supported place in their online 2020 festival.

Make Music Day in coming up on June 21, and Make Music Australia are seeking both formal submissions of content, and for music makers of all kinds to get involved using the hashtag #MakeMusicOz

On Air is a competition from Audible and the Australian Writers Guild, currently seeking submissions of new writing made for the podcast format, with winners receiving a share of $20,000. Applications close June 1st

 

WATCH AND LISTEN

Social Distancing Festival are presenting a arts events of all imaginable kinds online.

Social Distant-Scene, an online theatre program from Scranton Fringe will kick off soon.

Yarra Valley Writers Festival is on(line) during May.

Theatre of Isolation by our mates at Tooth and Sinew theatre will also be launching imminently.

The Globe and The National Theatre in London, UK

The Münicher Kammerspiele in Germany – some events with English subtitles, and English language buttons top left to help navigate their websites.

Australian National Theatre Live have a catalogue of Aussie productions available for online rental, and some will be available for free streaming on their Facebook Page over the next couple of weeks.

A Musical A Week for the MT nerds (or at least the Lloyd Webber nerds. (I’ll be thrilled to join anyone who wants to start a campaign for Sondheim to do the same!)

Lifeline is always there for anyone needing mental health support, online and on 13 11 14

The Actors Benevolent Fund provides assistance to current and past Equity members and their dependants who find themselves in dire circumstances.

Arts Wellbeing Collective have a range of support resources online for looking after your physical and mental health during this crisis.

1856 Victoria Trades Hall have a range of resources including breakdowns of who’s eligible for what support and how to access the various bits of stimulus.

Arts Beds The absolute legends at Company of Rogues are facilitating the bringing-together of people with space and artists in need of housing. If you have a spare room, or even a comfy couch, that you’re willing to share let them know and they’ll put you in touch with someone in need. And of course if you’re housing situation is shakey you can get in touch from that perspective too.
