The Sydney Fringe is working with Place Management NSW (PMNSW) to provide free month-long residency leases of beautiful heritage space in The Rocks to artists of all kinds.

This is an on-going, rolling program that has the capacity to continue into 2021. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible so that you don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate.

PMNSW are looking for Artists or Collectives that want temporary space for:

• A gallery, exhibition or showing of work
• To host workshops or classes
• Retail
• Artist studio
• Rehearsal space

Ideally there would be a public facing display, where customers or audiences can engage with the artist, see a rehearsal or reading, listen to their music, view their display or exhibition, purchase their art, or participate in a workshop.
We would love for artists to create some kind of social content that promotes The Rocks or their positive experience of The Rocks, eg. Insta stories that can be shared, beautiful images of their works in the buildings, or a pop up performance at the markets?

PMNSW offering:
• Space will be available for 30 days.
• Space will be leased directly to artist and artist will be required to sign the agreement and adhere to the terms.
• Artist/tenant is issued with 2 or 3 keys for building, depending on availability of keys. Space, electricity and water is provided for free. (Not all spaces have toilets – though there are amenities nearby).
• Promotion of the residency program on The Rocks website and social media platforms, as well as The Sydney Fringe website.

Requirements : Artist/s or collective will be required to:
• Have public liability insurance for $20mil, and will need to provide a risk assessment for their pop up including COVID safe considerations.
• Provide a proposal for approval that outlines what they are doing and also type of tenancy / space required.
• To activate/use the space regularly for the full period (at least 15-20 hrs/wk upward), and where a shop front part of the space, should look to activate with appropriate artworks or dress the window.
• Cleaning and waste will be the responsibility of the artist/tenant.
• All furniture / equipment must be temporary and not attach to or damage the permanently. Fit out must be made up of loose items, free standing.
• Artists organising shows / performances must manage their own ticketing – The Rocks can promote via socials if requested.
• Artists will be required to submit end of tenancy documentation – including video and text to The Sydney Fringe.
