Expressions Of Interest (EOIs)

EOIs are open until 5pm Wednesday 20th April

Export and Tour Ready Work | Market Development

For the second year in 2022, The Sydney Fringe are seeking thrilling and unique performance works from leading Sydney artists, to make up our Made in Sydney contemporary performance program.

In the model of the critically acclaimed Touring Hub, the 2022 Made in Sydney program will be a headline curated program of events which showcases the best, most exciting, most inventive work being made by Sydney Independent Artists. The program will be showcased first for Sydney Fringe audiences and the many interstate and international producers who will attend the 2022 Sydney Fringe Festival, and then beyond!

Due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of our usual Festival, the inaugural program was presented in 2020 under the umbrella of Global Fringe to critical acclaim, and sold-out houses. Artists and ensembles who presented new and existing works included Black Birds, Clockfire Theatre Company, Maeve Marsden, Oliver Mol and Ninefold.  These works were toured digitally to the Stockholm, Brighton, and Melbourne Fringe Festivals.  However, the intent of the program is to provide a platform for Sydney made work to have a life beyond its first season, and the Sydney Fringe is working to secure touring partnerships for the works. In 2022 we have partnered with arts market APAX to include Made in Sydney as part of their delegate viewing program, so presenters from around Australia will have the opportunity to see your work.

We encourage Sydney-based performance makers of all kinds with a proven track record of creating high-calibre work to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Works submitted can be in any performance style, genre or multi-artform, and can be devised performances, new work, or re-imaginings exemplary of your practice and brand.

This is not a program for developments or developmental showing seasons. Works should be premiere-ready at the time of submission, having undertaken at least one season or a substantial creative development.

Submissions will be assessed in part on prior public/critical reception and/or documentary/archival footage of development. Works should be able to tour (with a limited set) and be tour ready. Please consider your capacity and the capacity of your company to tour in 2022 and beyond.

EOIs are open now until April 20th 2022 at 5pm.

1. Broaden your Audience

Sydney Fringe has the highest profile of any independent arts event in New South Wales.

In 2019, during our last Fringe Festival, we garnered over 39 million media reach, and almost 70,000 people attended the Sydney Fringe – that’s the largest single audience base of any independent arts festival, venue, or event of any kind in NSW.

2. Audience Alignment

Our audience is committed to taking risks with new work. 45% of our audience say the main reason they attend the Sydney Fringe Festival is to see new work, and 43% say their main reason is to have unique experiences.

So, you know our audience want to go on whatever journey you have to offer!

3. Sydney Fringe is more than just a Festival

Sydney Fringe is committed to year-round support and advocacy to grow and strengthen the culture and night life of our city.

Between 2020 and 2021 (during the COVID-19 lockdowns) we created new projects and programs to support the creative community and develop new work, including artist residencies, digital global touring, a podcast, as well as the ongoing development of our Access & Inclusion and First Nations Programs.
