THE PROGRAM

For the second year in 2021, The Sydney Fringe are seeking thrilling and unique performance works from leading Sydney artists, to make up our Made In Sydney contemporary performance program.

A headline curated programme of events – in the model of our critically acclaimed Touring Hub at the Old 505 – the Made In Sydney program showcases the best, most exciting, most inventive work being made by Sydney Independent Artists; First for Sydney Fringe audiences, and the many interstate and international producers who attend Sydney Fringe, and then for the world!

The inaugural program in 2020 was presented under the umbrella of Global Fringe (the usual Fringe Festival was not presented in 2020 due to COVID-19) to critical acclaim, and sold-out houses. Artists and ensembles including Black Birds, Clockfire Theatre Co. Maeve Marsden, Oliver Mol and Ninefold presented new and existing work, and works were resourced to tour digitally to Stockholm, Brighton and Melbourne Fringe Festivals.

THE WORK

Sydney based performance makers of all kinds, with a proven track record of creating high-calibre work, are encouraged to submit an EOI.

Works submitted can be in any performance style or genre (or multi-artform), and can be devised performances, new work, or re-imaginings exemplary of your practice and brand.

This is not a programme for developments or developmental showing seasons. Works should be premiere-ready at the time of submission, and have had at least one season or a substantial creative development. EOI’s will be assessed in part on prior public/critical reception and/or documentary/archival footage of development.

Works should be tourable (limited set) and tour-ready. Please consider your capacity and the capacity of your company to tour in 2022 and beyond.

OTHER BENEFITS OF BEING PART OF SYDNEY FRINGE

Broaden your Audience: Sydney Fringe has the highest profile of any independent arts event in New South Wales.

In 2019 we garnered over $39 million worth of media reach, and almost 70,000 people attended Sydney Fringe – that’s the largest single audience base of any independent arts festival, venue or event of any kind in NSW.

Audience Alignment: Our Audiences are committed to taking a risk and new work.

45% of our audience say the main reason they come to Sydney Fringe is to see new work, and 43% say their main reason is to have unique experiences. So you know your audience want to go on whatever journey you have to offer!

We are more than just a festival

We are committed to year-round support and advocacy work to grow and strengthen the culture and nightlife of our city. In 2020 we created new projects and programs supporting the creative community: including residencies, digital global touring, a podcast, a rejuvenated focus on access, and first steps towards a dedicated First Nations Program. Being part of the Fringe Family strengthens that community voice, helps all boats to rise, and is its own warm and fuzzy reward.

All public events COVID permitting.

We actively encourage applications from culturally and linguistically diverse artists, first nations artists, LGBTIQ+ artists and artists with disability*
