This Week at Fringe

Twenty Million Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

8-14 September

Sydney Fringe is officially in full swing and this week the program is bursting with fresh theatre, wild cabaret, world premieres and free community fun. Here’s your hit list of what not to miss.

Touring Hub Lands in Newtown

This Wednesday night, the Touring Hub kicks off at New Theatre, Newtown with a double bill of international and award-winning works:

  • Shadow Necropolis (Japan) at 6pm – a thrilling performance featuring over 400 shadow puppets to create theatre magic.
  • Twenty Million Thousand Leagues Under The Sea at 7.30pm – last year’s Tour Ready Award winner from Melbourne Fringe, making waves with a clever reimagining of a classic.

Off Broadway Hub Delivers the Drama

The Off Broadway Hub continues to dazzle with exciting new works hitting the stage:

  • Kate Bush Unmoored – a haunting reimagining of the British icon’s music performed by 12-voice ensemble Eklektika.
  • A Czar is Born – a sharp and hilarious new musical by Laurence Rosier Staines (Griffin Award Finalist 2023).

TheLab@UNSW Ignites Innovation

Pushing the boundaries of performance, TheLab@UNSW makes its Fringe debut this week, 10–13 September. Home to experimental art and innovative artists, The Lab is where the rules get broken and remade. This weeks’ shows are:

  • Cosmic Vertigo – an experimental performance event from the minds of multidisciplinary artist/mystic Imbar Amira Nassi and performance artist/actor/director Audley Anderson.
  • Shamstock – enter the exciting world of stock footage with theatrical entrepreneurs Shamgodds.

We can’t wait to see what these boundary-pushing creatives have cooked up.

Fun for Foodies

FEAST returns to Hurstville Entertainment Centre for one night only this Thursday 11 September. Enjoy a delicious Korean dinner paired with a fresh line-up of speakers and comedians. Tickets are almost gone, nab those final seats now.

And the party keeps rolling with Fringeville at Hurstville Plaza on Friday from 6pm. Expect free live performances, food trucks and wholesome community vibes.

Queer Hub at Qtopia

Queer Hub continues at Qtopia with another round of fabulous and unmissable shows. Highlights include:

  • B-Cup: The Bressed Story – Drag Race Down Under star Brenda Bressed brings her powerhouse one-woman show to reveal the truth about reality TV stardom.
  • PYRATES! – a camp, chaotic, swashbuckling romp where queer pirates take to the seven seas with song, dance and sword fights.

Emerging Artist Share House

New voices and bold ideas light up the Emerging Artist Share House this week, including:

  • Jeromaia Detto: When I Grow Up – direct from winning the Spirit of the Fringe Award at Adelaide Fringe 2025, Jeromaia brings us his most ambitious show yet.
  • Not Another One Woman Show – a darkly funny dive into the unholy pressure on artists to turn trauma into performance.
