Weather getting warmer, sacred fire sparks, breath in. It's time. Join us in preparing for another year of Fringe excellence with our fire lighting and Welcome Ceremony
Sydney Fringe takes a breath in to prepare itself for another year of wild, exciting, and unexpected Fringe excellence. We ready ourselves with a moment to connect to country, people and storytelling at our opening weekend street party at Stanley Street. Artists and audiences are warmly invited to gather on Gadigal land and watch the sacred fire lighting and Welcome Ceremony. The Fire Lighting is a powerful experience that allows all gathered the opportunity to pay respects to our First Nations people and their enduring connection and custodianship of the country we meet, tell stories and make art on. The land under our feet, the, air we breath, the skies and waters of this place are older than we can imagine and we thank her for holding us since time immemorial.A warm, intimate event that begins at 3:00pm with a welcome dance followed, cultural workshops offerings and culminates in a a firelighting and smoking ceremony as the sun goes down. All are welcome. Following the ceremony will be an evening of Fringe good times as we take over stanely street and get the temperature rising for an amazing Fringe 2026.
