About this event
In an intimate hour of storytelling , drama and comedy, you follow maedeh's journey of breaking boundaries and finding her voice in a world that seeks to define her.

Maedeh, a devout Muslim woman, has lived her life strictly adhering to religious rules and societal expectations. However, everything changes when she makes the unexpected decision to remove her headscarf (aka hijab), challenging the norms she's known all her life. This choice sets off a chain reaction, with her family turning against her and pushing her to the verge of a breakdown.
As Maedeh grapples with the fallout from her decision, her world collapses under a cascade of life crises. With a shattered heart, no income, no family support, and nowhere to turn, she finds herself facing overwhelming challenges. Despite the turmoil, one thing remains clear: her three-year-old son needs her.
Determined to power through and make it work for her son's sake, Maedeh embarks on a journey of resilience, self-discovery, and community support. Along the way, she encounters both comedic and poignant moments as she navigates cultural clashes, familial tensions, and the complexities of identity and autonomy.
"Maedeh: coughing the ashes" is a storytelling show that blends humour, drama, and social commentary to explore themes of identity, family dynamics, and the pursuit of personal freedom. It invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and empathise as they follow Maedeh's journey of breaking boundaries and finding her voice in a world that seeks to define her.
