A cringey and chaotic one woman show about teenage girlhood, desirability politics and surviving Year Nine.
It’s 2014. Kik is alive, The Hunger Games is peak and 15-year-old Elise is trying to earn her HSC: Hot Slut Certificate. She’s doing everything right: wearing a push-up bra two sizes too small for #ultimatecleavagegoals, drinking way too many Smirnoff Double Blacks at lame house parties, and putting the moves on her sexy rodent boy crush she’s nicknamed ‘Umbrella’. But after a school consent seminar, Elise begins to question everything that MAFS, her mum and her girlfriends have taught her about sex and relationships.Much like The Hunger Games, Elise’s teenage years become a game of survival. A darkly comedic one-woman coming of age play set in the pre ‘Teach Us Consent’ era of the early 2010s, She’ll Be Right is a story about navigating teenage girlhood in a rape culture, and how young girls are forced to perform adulthood before they understand it themselves.
