Real life drama and sharp comedy collide when Dad helps chronically ill Ash declare independence and leave home.
Sharp comedy abounds in this play based on the writer’s own declaration of independent living. Dad and Ash have some unburdening to do. Ash doesn’t want to be stuck in the dull suburbia of Connells Point and Dad fears that Ash, who lives with a mysterious illness, will be living with his parents for the rest of his life. Dad has to pay for the apartment, Ash has to live in it. But first they have to agree on which one. What do Ash and Dad learn about themselves and each other, and why is Ash SO obsessed with “The Lord of the Rings”?Auspiced by indie theatre legends subtlenuance, producers of over 30 original Australian works, "The Unburdening" is a semi-autobiographical play by Ashley Walker.Ashley is a Graduate of the NIDA Playwright’s Studio with a passion for comedy.
