In 2025, Sydney Fringe proudly welcomes one of the city’s most beloved venues, The Old Fitz Theatre, to the Festival for the very first time with two thrilling world premieres.
On the mainstage, Guguburra Studios presents Way Back When by acclaimed playwright Dylan Van Den Berg. Directed by Ryan Whitworth-Jones and brought to life by a First Nations team, this poetic tale of resistance and survival has already won the Griffin Award and Rodney Seaborn Playwrights’ Award. It is a defining new work not to be missed.
The late-night program features She Threaded Dangerously, a bold ensemble piece by Simon Thomson and Emma Wright, presented by Senseless Productions and directed by Claudia Elbourne. This provocative work explores power, desire and the murky lines between agency and victimhood.
Alongside the shows, Old Fitz will host panels, workshops and special events that deepen community connection and champion sector development.
To truly experience the magic of the Fringe, you can’t stop at just one show! Dive into the nearby hubs to map out your evening and fully immerse yourself in Sydney’s vibrant creative scene this September.
